Preliminary recap: Host teams fed bagels

(Beijing, January 22) The group matches of the "Good Luck Beijing" 2008 Wheelchair Basketball International Invitational Tournament came to an end at the National Indoor Stadium this evening as both the Chinese men's and women's teams suffered three-game losing streaks.

On the men's side, double Paralympic champions Australia thrashed the Netherlands 66-32 this evening to cruise into the semifinals with three consecutive wins. Following Australia are Canada and the Netherlands, who ended in second and third tandem. China was at the bottom.

On the women's side, the German women's team rallied from 13 points behind to beat Japan 48-43 and placed first with three wins. Japan and Canada were in the second and third spots. The host women players were sent three defeats in a row.

The semis will be held the day after tomorrow, with China taking on Australia and Canada playing the Netherlands in the men's group; and China facing off Germany while Japan confronting Canada in the women's group. The finals will be held on January 25.
