
(Beijing, January 22) In the last men's group match of the "Good Luck Beijing" 2008 Wheelchair Basketball International Invitational Tournament, Australia thrashed the Netherlands 66-32 this evening to cruise into the semifinals with three consecutive wins.
Double Paralympic champions Australia took over the game from the very beginning, leading 20-10 after the first quarter and 36-17 at halftime. The Dutch trailed 49-26 and gained only 6 points in the fourth period.
Three Australians reached double figures as Tristan Knowles came off the bench to contribute a team-high of 15 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Brad Ness had 10 points and 15 rebounds while Justin Eveson added 12 in the win.
No Dutch reached double figures as their top scorer was Jaap Smid with 7 points plus 6 rebounds.
Australia finished first after the preliminary rounds with three wins. Canada and the Netherlands ended in second and third tandem with China at the bottom.
The semis of the tournament will be staged on January 24.
