Beijing, January 22 - Comments from coach Holger Glincki (GER) and player Marina Mohnen (GER) after Germany beat Japan 48-43 in the preliminary round.
Holger Glincki (GER) - Coach
On JPN's Amimoto Mari (No. 15):
"Her shootings are accurate and her wheel-control is super. They really have had a perfect start, but than we used intensive defence to Mari, and it worked."
On the defence to JPN's fast style of play:
"we firmly controlled the zone and lengthened the distance of shooting, so we prevented them from scoring. I believe it's the way to defend them."
Marina Mohnen (GER) - Center
On the first half of the match:
"JPN's players played very well today. They were fast and with high success rates. On the contrary, our players were a little bit shocked and our success rates were fairly low. Besides, our defence was worse than JPN's which put us into a difficult situation at the beginning. We ran far behind of JPN's team."
On the second half of the match:
"From the third quarter, we calmed down and strenghthened our defence. Of course, JPN's players were tired at that time. We took the chance to re-attack and won."
